Midsummer

Spent the midsummer in the middle of no where. I guess that's the point of the celebrations. :)

Some people built a huge bonfire by the lakeside.

A few people decided to drive back home the same day we did.

I think there was every single car in the country there in front of us.

Out with Yoda

Tried some more close-ups with the new camera. I'm finally learning to use it.

Yoda posing in the middle of a flower field.

At the beach there's no time to pose. :)

One happy dog.

Bugs

An old Finnish phrace says you can predict the weather of tomorrow by the snails antennas. If they are up, it means no rain. This one was right to hold them up as it was cloudy but no rain the next day.

Beautifully colored fly. Or maybe has flit too close to the bases of our Keskusta or Kokoomus parties and catched some radiation on it's way.

Tracking practice

We went to do some tracking practice for the dogs. One of my friends knew this great huge forest with mostly pines and some firs. Was quite difficult terrain for the trace as the ground was pretty well covered with ferns, but all the dogs did well. :)

It has stood up decades before finally falling.

Before reaching our final destination, there was a lot of old trenches and wartime remnants we had to cross.

Someone had seen the trouble of bringing all kinds of rubbish to a hole in the middle of the forest. I guess they could of found an easier way to dispose of them. The most interesting thing was the nature reserve sign at the bottom of the picture, that had been stolen from the forest just near my house.

This tree has a split personality?

We left a bloody trale behind us.

Yoda is anxious to start his hunting. They both knew what we were here for, the moment I first took the blood out of my freezer in the morning.

Huge trees.

A hole - one could only guess how deep. Gizmo thought it might be a good idea to test it, but luckily she decided against it.

Introducing....

I got a new camera, Canon PowerShot SX210 IS. This is better fit to carry with me outside, unlike the heavy DSLR.

The camera produces really bright colors. Looks great with sceneries.

Gizmo and Yoda are my number #1 targets for photo shootouts. :)

A bit too bright sky. Tested a function that was supposed to intelligently calculate the exposure so colors show up just right even with background lighting.

Macro function. It doesn't work as well as I had hoped, it doesn't focus on the right target unless you do it manually. When it does focus though it takes beautifully detailed images.

More testing with macro.

I also found it much more difficult to take pictures of the kids on the go, than what I've used to with my EOS. Auto settings easily produce blurry images and with manual settings they often come out somewhat hazy as this one. Though I think I still have a lot to learn about how to hold so small camera steady.

Still targets are easy and it has this fun option of filtering all but one shade to b&w.

Like the roses.

A castropod family near my house. There's sometimes hundreds of them after rain.

I love the new camera. :) It has it's downs but it's great to keep with you and has so much better image quality than what I've had with my previous pocket models. And tons of neat little options! No need to feel bad about having the camera at home once again just as you'd find something fantastic to capture!
